With today’s highly competitive environment, it is not unusual for students of all age to experience social, personal, or academic problems in their day to day life. The growing pressure to excel everywhere often leads to emotional or psychological turmoil, thus disturbing one‘s peace of mind. In an institution such as IIT Roorkee, these disturbances may surface all the more frequently, when one is away from his/her protective social environment. There then arises a need of a mentor or a counsellor- someone you can confide in.
Counselling Service is to help the students to focus on and understand more clearly the issues that concern them. This includes tackling personal, family and peer problems as well as managing academics more responsibly.
IIT Roorkee has following facilities to provide counselling to the students. The counselling cell in IIT Roorkee is the primary provider of free and confidential counselling services to students, to manage their professional, and academic challengers by two professional counsellors. The counselling cell also includes a student body who works among the students to spread awareness and break the stigma related to mental health.
Apart from it institute has online counselling services which provides 24x7 help line, free audio / video chat and weekly face to face counselling given by external professional counsellors. IIT students and staff members can avail these services from any place over India
We are commited to enriching the lives of IIT Roorkee community. To meet this objective we have been organising numerous workshops, seminars and other interactive events

I am from an orthodox family. Sometime ago, I was into self-loathing downward spiral. Negativity inside me was infuriating. I was not able to share my negative thoughts with my friends because I was afraid that my image would be damaged and I may lose them. I was too ashamed to go to Counseling Cell because I did not want to see myself as weak.
While studying one may has to face many financial, academic, family, social, institutional, or any other sorts of issues. I was no different from rest of the mass. I had problems in multiple of these domains e.g. issues with friends, dilemmas for career direction and the very common issue of IIT Roorkee- good placement. Though these were small issues and were manageable. But due to continuous stress and anxiety, I started developing depression, inferiority complex, and isolation.
